Photos from the KMMV-2Q3-KWJF-2Q3-KMMV Flight of January 27-28, 2001

At 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2001, I departed McMinnville Oregon, destination Fox Field in Lancaster California. Arrived right on schedule at 11:30 a.m. at Yolo County Airport in Davis California. I picked this airport because it has a 6000' runway and mogas. Wind was very strong and gusty out of the north but I still managed a decent landing. Loaded up with gas and made a few phone calls, got back in the air by 12:30 p.m. Flew the whole trip at 11,500 feet. Landed at Fox Field right on schedule at 3:30 p.m. There I met Pete Freeland and Paul Lamar. Pete gave us a tour of the Space Shuttle Columbia, currently being overhauled at the Boeing facility in Palmdale. All photos below were taken by Paul Lamar.

The next morning was a beautiful clear day at KWJF, but was cold and the plane was covered in frost. Took over an hour to inspect the plane, defrost, and refuel. Took off at 8:00 a.m. and flew at 10,500 feet to 2Q3 in Davis once again. Fueled up and took off, climbed to 12,500 feet this time to be as high as possible over the mountains. Picked up a tail wind in Oregon, and arrived home at 4:15 p.m. There were absolutely no clouds below me the whole trip! There were some high clouds above me in Oregon. A new wave of precipitation was forecast to move into Oregon that evening, and it arrived right on schedule only about 3 hours after my return.
